JIM JEFFERIES: ALCOHOLOCAUST

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
*Alcoholocaust: (Meaning: The aftermath of a drinking party, usually resulting in every available horizontal surface being covered in empty booze containers, spilled beverages, and a general sticky alcoholic residue.)
Jim Jefferies, the globally renowned Australian stand-up, returns to the Edinburgh Festival for the sixth time with his brand new solo show ‘Alcoholocaust’. This time he will perform at the mammoth 1031 capacity venue McEwan Hall for the whole month of August.
‘Alcoholocaust’ includes some of Jim’s favourite wild antics over the past year and as always Jims material is set in reality, which is what provides him with his trademark brutally frank style. You will hear about a hilarious and often touching true story about his friends severely disabled brother plus Jims traditional pet hates...
Over the last two years Jim has been making his mark on the U.S.A, where he now resides in Venice Beach. He is currently making his own show for Comedy Central entitled ‘The Jim Jefferies Show’ and has screen-tested alongside Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Long amongst others. His own one-hour HBO special ‘I Swear To God’ has given him huge success (following in the footsteps of comic legends Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly who were also awarded one-hour specials) cementing his place as now one of the biggest names in comedy around the globe. Just last year Jim was the only international comic to perform his own show at the new ‘Just For Laughs Festival’ in Chicago alongside comic luminaries that include Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Fallon. This year Jim is returning to Montreal to perform at one of the prestigious Galas and also record another HBO tv show. Also Jim will be returning to the UK later in the Autumn for his 45 date tour.
Jim can currently be seen as the face of Comedy Central’s ‘Grouchy Young Men’ and has appeared on the BBC1’s ‘Have I Got News For You’ (where he flirted outrageously with, and was turned down by, host Moira Stewart!), BBC 2’s ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’, Ch4’s ‘8 Out of 10 Cat’s’, E4’s ‘Big Brother’s Celebrity Hijack’, Sky 1’s ‘Premier League All-Stars’(playing for Fulham) and Paramount’s ‘Class of ’97’ alongside Simon Pegg, Matt Lucas, David Walliams and Mighty Boosh. Stateside Jim has hosted HBO’s ‘Live at Gotham’ and the American ‘NME Awards’ amongst other things.

PAUL ZERDIN - SPONGE FEST REVISITED

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Following a total sell-out 5-star run at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, the UK’s hottest ventriloquist, Paul Zerdin, returns to the festival with a ten night run... In a show that elicited more “spate[s] of uncontrollable laughter” than any other show last year, Zerdin’s 2010 performance will include some amazing added surprises!
Arguably Britain’s most talented ventriloquist/stand up comedian, Zerdin, who is the first ventriloquist to ever headline the Comedy Store, could soon become one of the UK’s hottest exports with a series of Sponge Fest shows lined up at this year’s Montreal Just for Laughs festival. Sponge Fest sees three very different characters brought to life – the cheeky pre-adolescent Sam, belligerent OAP Albert and precocious infant Baby. With a ‘set closer’ that always involves some serious audience participation, who knows what Zerdin will have in store for this year’s Edinburgh audiences.
Zerdin’s winning combination of charm, impeccable comic timing and continual audience interaction have recently seen him perform a storming set on ITV1’s Comedy Rocks, hosted by Jason Manford, and have the audience ‘rolling in the aisles’ at the 2009 Royal Variety Performance.

UK STARS TO HEAD CAST include
Phill Jupitus (Never Mind The Buzzcocks)
"The funniest show in town, hands down," New York Post
Running for three sold out years in New York; CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY won the 2009 Drama Desk Award and the show has been one of the most critically acclaimed productions ever in the off-Broadway scene and one of the most buzzed about shows of recent years.
It will make its UK premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2010 and will feature New York regular Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) plus George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) together with a glittering array of comedians every night. What makes Mr T the Man with the Gold? How can David Hasselhoff play both Jekyll and Hyde? What does Stallone keep in his freezer? Why is Miley Cyrus feeling unlucky? The extracts run the gamut from the stormy love life of Burt Reynolds to the shocking “romance tips” from Tommy Lee to the most famous Hollywood love triangle in history---Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, and Eddie Fisher. ROB ROUSE: THE GREAT ESCAPE

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Rob Rouse’s return to Edinburgh last year won him much critical acclaim and a sell-out run in one of the primetime slots of the festival. This year, Rob explores the ego, time and escaping the traps life inevitably throws at us. Expect stand up, expect sketches, expect characters... expect hilarity.
Rob’s career in comedy was kick-started in 1998 when he won the So You Think You're Funny? New Act Competition, following the likes of Peter Kay, Tommy Tiernan and Dylan Moran. A couple of sketch and solo shows at the Fringe later and Rob could be seen on countless television shows from 8 Out of 10 Cats (Channel 4) to Spoons (Channel 4), as well as a co-hosting slot on Channel 4’s The Friday Night Project. His film spoofs with his pet duck became an internet phenomenon and were even ‘pecked’ up by Paramount.
Following the success of last year’s fringe, Rob was invited out to the Copenhagen Comedy Festival (where he is set to perform again this year) and is touring his 2009 show My Family and the Dog That Scared Jesus nationwide as well as in the middle-east. He has been a regular guest on Chris Addison’s Five Live topical show ‘7 Day Sunday’, has recently recorded his third ‘Live at the Comedy Store’ for Comedy Central and has just made a pilot panel show for ITV. Rob is currently working on a project with television production company Baby Cow, the force behind Gavin and Stacey and Mighty Boosh, so watch this space!

SAMMY J: SKINNY MAN, MODERN WORLD

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Barry Award: Winner - 2010
Age Critics Award: Winner – 2008
Barry Award: Best Show Nominee - 2008
Best Newcomer: Melbourne International Comedy Festival - 2006
Fresh from winning the prestigious Barry Award at this year’s Melbourne Comedy Festival, Sammy J returns to Edinburgh with a brand new hour of songs, jokes and juice. Join one of the most imaginative comics on the international circuit as he regales the audiences with stories and songs from life on the road. This hour will be a refreshingly honest look into Sammy’s life – no characters, no fourth wall, and no co-star with a hand up something’s arse.
From his earliest practical joke on a school bus to a near-death experience with a punter in Adelaide, Sammy J’s sense of humour has got him in and out of trouble for the best part of a decade. And let’s not forget his horrendous experience with the Aberdeen Angus Beef Burger Van in Teviot Square - but you’ll just have to see the show to hear more about that! If you like your comedy served with a slight narrative, musical numbers, occasional moments of improvisation and respectable attire, this show will not let you down
Barry Award Winner 2010, Age Critics Award winner 2008, and Best Newcomer Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2006, Sammy J has been a favourite in his homeland Australia for several years now and is fast becoming one of the Fringe’s favourite performers. In Australia Sammy’s songs can be heard frequently on TV and radio and Sammy has been involved in several productions at the Fringe including his own solo shows as well as the hit theatrical production ‘Breaker Morant’ alongside fellow Aussies Adam Hills and Brendan Burns. “Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams”, developed with puppeteer Heath McIvor, was the smash hit of the 2008 Fringe Festival and Sammy’s album “Sticky Digits”, recorded live at the Spiegeltent, is available now through iTunes.

PETE JOHANSSON: PETE'S ON EARTH

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
CHORTLE AWARDS BEST BREAKTHROUGH ACT – Nominee 2010
EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD BEST NEWCOMER – Nominee 2009
Pete Johansson’ debut Edinburgh show last year, Naked Pictures of My Life, won Pete an Edinburgh Comedy Award; Newcomer nomination and placed him firmly on the UK’s comedic map. Although no stranger to comedy Stateside, this was Pete’s first ever hour show and now the Pete is on.
Pete’s laid-back and ironic delivery won him consistent fantastic reviews last year as well as nominations for the Edinburgh and Chortle Comedy Awards. This year, Pete’s On Earth is about Pete’s journey across the globe, his attempts at adapting to different societies but realising the only way to be truly happy is to convince everyone else on Earth that they are wrong. Or to cause enough drug induced brain damage not to care.
Warner Brothers, HBO, Castle Rock and NBC have all vied for Pete’s allegiance, and Pete has touredsell-out shows in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Dubai, Qatar, Malta, Amsterdam and Afghanistan. In the year that he has lived in the UK, Pete has become a regular at the prestigious Comedy Store and Just the Tonic and performed alongside the likes of Stephen Merchant, Stewart Lee and Simon Amstell. He also starred opposite Ed Byrne is BBC4’s Sex Bombs, has recorded a set for Comedy Central’s The Comedy Store, was on Channel 4’s Best of the Fest show and is heading back to the Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival this summer to perform one of the main televised Gala’s.

LEICESTER MERCURY COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR – 2007
LAUGHING HORSE NEW ACT OF THE YEAR - 2006
Never one to keep his tongue in his cheek for long, last year’s Edinburgh Award Best Newcomer nominee Carl Donnelly returns with a show about his rising ‘fame’, how suddenly he has found himself in a strange limbo of no longer being anonymous, but being far from famous. Recently married (which always gives a comic masses of material), Carl has noticed a considerable lack of confidence in anything other than comedy…
Last year’s show, Relax Everyone, It’s Carl Donnelly, proved Carl to be one of today’s rising stars. His laid-back attitude, conversational style and silly sense of humour won him a prestigious Edinburgh Newcomer Award nomination, adding to his already growing list of awards and nominations since he started out in comedy only 5 years ago.
Carl has toured with top comics such as Russell Howard, Jim Jeffries and Rhod Gilbert and he is now a regular in all of the leading comedy clubs in the UK and Europe. Most recently Carl appeared on the BBC’s Russell Howard’s Good News, Grouchy Young Men and The Comedy Store for Comedy Central and popped up on our screens throughout Christmas on the marathon show The Noughties, also for the BBC.

MIKE KEAT: THE LYIN' BITCH AND THE WARDROBE

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Mike Keat, the creative force behind cult phenomenon The Cuban Brothers, returns to his hometown’s annual festival with no front and no facade. This will be the first time to see the king of character in the first person as he delves into his life, his memory and his wardrobe.
This hotly anticipated debut solo show will be a highly improvised hour of character, song, dance, and will also feature Mike’s Uncle Archie Easton, fellow Cuban and wrong-man, as Mike sheds light on the host of characters who have made him famous.Edinburgh born and raised, Mike fast became known as the class clown when he adopted various characters to entertain his class-mates. As an adolescent, Mike and his family moved to New Zealand for the second time where Mike’s characters helped cement school friendships and secured DJ slots at clubs he was clearly too young to be in. By 18, Mike had moved to Spain via Edinburgh where, on observing a local character in his hotel, the renowned persona of Miguel, Cuban Brother numero 1, was born. Back to Scotland and Mike was a fully fledged promoter and DJ, but his grandfather soon whisked him from the underground vibe to the mainstream light when he forced Mike to take a job as entertainment manager at Pontins in Blackpool. Here Mike learnt his trade, working with old greats such as Ken Dodd and Mick Miller, and shortly Barry Peters, Mike’s misguided 80’s DJ, was created (watch out for Barry’s film – released later this year)
It wasn’t until Mike’s return to Edinburgh that the Cuban Brothers were brought to life. Beginning in Edinburgh’s Cellar Bar No 1 as a weekly show, they were soon offered a slot at the Gilded Balloon as part of the 1999 Fringe Festival - and then there was no stopping them. A move to London and they were performing several gigs a week. The hype alone won them gigs most artists could only dream of – performances for Elton John, Robbie Williams, David Hasselhoff, George Michael, Arnold Schwarzenegger – they couldn’t keep Madonna away. An MTV show ensued, and Mike hosted the 2003 movie Gumball 3000, narrating alongside Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds.
The Cubans are no stranger to festivals either. Involved in the first ever Bestival, one of the leading and most prominent UK festivals, the Cubans became the official hosts of the festival. They have since supported everyone from Fat Boy Slim in Glastonbury to James Brown and Chuck Berry in Australia. Their album ‘The CB’s Yo Bonita’ is released in September.

TIERNAN DOUIEB: LITTLEST THINGS

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
You look lovely today. No, really. The smallest things we say can really make someone's day. As a professional small thing, Tiernan Douieb knows this well.
Tienan’s second solo Edinburgh show explores good nature, unsung heroes, just how dangerous ants are and why, on the whole, he’s a pretty rubbish friend. This show contains some thoughtful bits, some not so thoughtful bits and the term ‘Liam Kneesons’.
Looking back at four unsung heroes in his life who’ve done something to help or cheer up his day, Tiernan ponders just why people find it so hard to be nice. Constantly attempting to be seen as helpful himself, he realizes how often that seems to end in people getting the wrong impression of him, leading to everything from odd looks to nearly being attacked on stage last October. And worse, that his constant efforts to please and be helpful to everyoneoften mean he neglects those closest to him instead.
In Littlest Things, Tiernan aims to explain why, if every tiny littlest thing we do means something to someone, we are far more important then you realize.
Tiernan has graced many a stage with his beardy face, playing gigs all over the UK and abroad. His friendly manner and fast paced gags have made him a highly sought after compère and act on the circuit.
Tiernan was the main warm-up for Mark Watson, Tim Key and Alex Horne’s BBC4 show We Need Answers in 2009. He has also done a bit of telly work for CBBC, Orange Television, Virgin Media and a Carlsberg advert where he had to sing badly on purpose. He did not find the last one that difficult.
He invented and ran the world’s first ever Twitter Comedy Club with an estimated 14000 viewers and international press, and is part of the highly acclaimed London Comedy Improv
Regularly gigging for the top clubs, promoters and festivals, Tiernan has recently supported Jim Jeffries on his national tour and in Oct 2008 he unknowingly had to follow Robin Williams on one of his surprise London appearances which was a bit terrifying.
Praise for Tiernan
“This densely packed set is delivered by a comic with charm and a sweetly boyish perspective….Douieb has an accomplished and charming manner and genuinely funny material.” – Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“Tiernan Douieb is a bubbly man with a generally sunny disposition, and his jokes were well-timed and genuinely funny.” – Three Weeks

Lady Carol: Malady

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Lady Carol (or Lady Carol of the Moon as fans of cult comedy show Maxwell's Fullmooners may know her) returns to Edinburgh with her new show Malady following her acclaimed debut solo show, Tomorrow is My Turn.
Winner of the ‘Latest 7 Brighton Fringe Best Music Event 2009’ (beating Anthony and the Johnsons and Kasabian!), Lady Carol is a most unique and spell-binding performer, combining her beautiful melancholic and world weary voice with the chirpy sound of the ukulele. With a combination of covers (Nirvana’s ‘Heartshape Box’, Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’), her own original writings, and anecdotes of a self-deprecating wickedness of a woman who has always asked for a second helping, Carol proves herself as witty as she is wistful, leaving the audience unsure whether to laugh or cry.
Born and raised in Dublin, Carol had never performed until she came to the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2006. Self-taught on the ukulele she was given as a present barely 5 years ago, Carol decided to take the plunge when Irish comic Andrew Maxwell approached her do a one-off performance at Fullmooners and she instantly became a hit as well as a full-time member of the crew. Her stunning looks and original takes on old tunes won the hearts of all and she went on to perform in many a festival (Glasgow, Bestival, Manchester, Altitude, Brighton and Adelaide). Carol took part in A Company of Strangers, a critically acclaimed 5-star, sell-out show in the World Famous Spiegel Tent in Adelaide which won the cast a nomination for ‘Best Cabaret Show’ on the Fringe Award.
So far, 2010 has seen a return to Adelaide Fringe with her solo show, dates at the Sydney Opera House and performances already booked in Holland, France and all over the UK and, with a brand new hour for the Edinburgh Fringe, it’s only the beginning.
For something entirely original and unusual, spend an hour in Carol’s charming and captivating company this festival…

Tim FitzHigham: Gentleman Adventurer

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
"Tim FitzHigham is part comedian, part old-school gentleman adventurer" The Guardian
After a year away from the Fringe, Tim FitzHigham is back - this time in a pirate ship in the Pleasance Courtyard. Sharing new tales of adventure in his inimitable way, Tim invites the audience aboard as the Ark’s willing crew on his latest voyage into the epic absurd.
In his brand new show, Tim focuses on his most recent exploits. Since his last Edinburgh, he’s acquired a new wife and baby and a sinking house, enjoyed escapades on inflatables and hollowed-out logs, erected Europe’s longest washing line, talked to polar bears and achieved his ultimate ambition with a brewery naming a beer after him.
Tim is famed for imaginative and foolhardy missions including crossing the channel in a bathtub, ‘endurance’ Morris dancing from London to Norwich and rowing 160 miles down the Thames in a paper boat (all World Record breaking stunts).
His previous acclaimed Edinburgh outings have earned him two Spirit of the Fringe Awards, a Perrier nomination for Best Newcomer, two Chortle Award nominations, a Three Weeks Editors Award and Critics Choices in most of the nation’s media including The Times, Telegraph, Sunday Times, Independent, Guardian, Scotsman, Evening Standard, The Observer, Time Out and Metro.
As well as navigating rivers in paper boats, Tim has crossed a desert in a suit of armour and run up Mount Vesuvius. He has had a toilet named after him by Thomas Crapper, been appointed Pittancer of Selby Town and the commodore of the only land-locked port in the world (Sudbury Quay), and is a former spokesperson for UN World Environment Day.
‘Concierge of the Moon’ of the smash hit Maxwell's Fullmooners, Tim has appeared numerous BBC Radio shows including The Museum of Curiosity and Friday night is Music Night, cosied up on the sofa at This Morning, burnt duck on Ready Steady Cook and played in the mud on Channel 4’s Time Team as well as making documentaries for the BBC and sketch shows for ITV. He has also recently appeared in films with, among others, Anthony Hopkins, Benicio Del Torro, Matt Damon and Clint Eastwood. His book All at Sea is available from any bookshop still open.
CONCERN FOR TIM FITZHIGHAM

‘Well done for keeping British eccentricity well and truly alive’ Sir Ranulph Fiennes

KEITH FARNAN: SEX TRAFFIC - HOW MUCH IS THAT WOMAN IN THE WINDOW?

CLICK THE IMAGE FOR TICKET INFO
Sex Traffic is the latest show from critically acclaimed comic Keith Farnan whose shows Cruel and Unusual (about the Death Penalty) and No Blacks. No Jews. No Dogs. No Irish. All Welcome (about racism and fascism) proved Keith to be one of the most thought provoking comedians around. Both shows went on to have sell-out runs in the West End after selling out their Edinburgh runs and Keith is still performing Cruel and Unusual today, it’s just that damned good.
Do we value women, or do we just put a value on them? In Sex Traffic, Keith looks at the rise of sexism in everyday life and explores the idea that all women may be in danger of being trafficked in some way. In a year when a Doctor in cancer research revealed her identity as an upper class call girl, is it surprising that professional women are being made redundant and finding they have become full time mothers by default? What does it say that the people of Iceland have turned to a woman to clean up one of the greatest economic disasters of modern times? Where in the world are women valued? Scandinavia - yes. Saudi Arabia - no. Ireland - we try.
Formerly a solicitor, Keith has performed as a stand-up all over the world, from the Boston International Comedy Festival to Hong Kong to the Middle East. His debut show ‘Cruel and Unusual’, a comedy show against the Death Penalty in America, garnered much attention from media and punters alike at theEdinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to become part of the Royal Festival Halls Xmas Festival in London as well as the N20 Comedy Festival and lead to him becoming a regular on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends. His second show No Blacks. No Jews. No Dogs. No Irish. All Welcome went on to sell out its run at the Soho Theatre. A regular at prestigious comedy venues such as London’s Comedy Store and Dublin’s Laughter Lounge, Keith’s television credits include ‘One Night Stand’ (BBC) and ‘Liffey Laughs’ (RTE) and he has written for and performed in ‘The Insomniac Club” for BBC Radio.
